Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

identi.ca is an open source social networking and micro-blogging service similar to Twitter. Based on Laconica, a micro-blogging software package built on the OpenMicroBlogging specification, users may send text updates (called "dents") up to 140 characters long in a similar way to Twitter.

Facebook is a social networking website that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. Users can add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. Individuals or companies can create "Pages" which allows users to "become a fan" of the individual, product, service, or concept. Pages look and behave much like a user's personal private profile, with some significant differences. You can follow news updates from Wikinews here.

Twitter, identi.ca and Facebook allows Wikinews to announce breaking news & to interact more with a rapidly changing community. Feel free to follow us on Twitter, identi.ca and Facebook and get the latest headlines (updated every 30 minutes) directly in your favorite client.

Currently the Twitter account is being maintained by TUFKAAP, DragonFire1024 and ShakataGaNai.
